Protecting Your E-Bike
It seems everyone has an e-bike these days and those who don’t, want one. Some shady souls are out to bypass the process of purchasing one by stealing yours. An e-bike is an investment worth protecting. Here are some suggestions to help prevent theft of your electric bike:
By being fully aware of your surroundings, you are less likely to fall victim to a theft. You don’t have to be paranoid to be alert. Thieves look for people who are distracted to prey on. Don’t be caught off-guard.
Have a Plan
Be prepared with a plan of action in case someone does try to steal your bike. While it is less likely a bad guy would take your bike with you on it, it does happen. Have a whistle, horn, or some other type of noise maker to sound off in case of trouble. In the event you are off your bike and see someone taking it or attempting to take it, have your phone in hand and be ready to call the police.
Security and Insurance
There are security systems you can purchase that help prevent thefts and even track your bike in the event it does get stolen. You are not required by law to carry insurance on your electric bike, but it’s not a bad idea. There are a number of different insurance plans you can choose from. Most cover theft.
Element of Surprise
The most common plot of a thief is to catch their victim off-guard. You are most likely to be taken advantage of when you least expect it, like when you run in a convenience store to grab a water or to grab a quick bite to eat.
Don’t Park in the Dark
Darkness brings out the worse in any given location. Park your e-bike in a well-lit location whether you are parking it for the night or just for a minute. If possible, park it where there are security cameras too.
Your e-bike is...your e-bike. Make sure it stays that way by taking all the preventable measures you can against theft.
